Air Quality Review and Assessment

Local Authorities in the UK have a responsibility under the Local Air Quality Management (LAQM) legislation to monitor and report on Air Quality to Defra.  This was done in the form of an Updating and Screening Assessment (USA) or in the interim periods a Progress Report (PR).  In 2016 Defra streamlined the process and an Annual Status Report is now submitted to Defra. 


The new Annual Status Report contains a useful summary at the beginning of the document which gives a brief outline on

  • the concentrations of pollution measured in the previous calendar year
  • how this compared to previous years
  • what the council has been doing to improve air quality in the area.
