South Bucks District Council maintain three cemeteries and a garden of remembrance.
- Holtspur Cemetery, Broad Lane, Beaconsfield
- Parkside Cemetery, Windsor Road, Hedgerley, nr. Gerrards Cross - Woodland Burials At Parkside
- Shepherds Lane Cemetery, Shepherds Lane, Beaconsfield
All the cemeteries accept cremated remains and full burials. Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens is for interments of cremated remains only.
Opened in 1954 and is situated close to the A40 and Beaconsfield Town. This cemetery is divided into sections to allow a choice of memorial, full memorials and headstones, or flat tablets in the lawn section.
Opened in 1965 and is located between Gerrards Cross and Stoke Poges on the B416. This is a lawn cemetery with flat headstones only. This not only reduces maintenance but also pleasantly emphasises the surrounding landscape.
Woodland Burials At Parkside
A woodland burial scheme was introduced at Parkside Cemetery on 1st June 1996. An area of land has been set aside to be used for woodland burials with adjacent land available for the future expansion of this area.
Woodland burials offer an ecologically sound alternative to traditional burials. The area has been planned to create, over time, woodland of predominately native species with associated flora and fauna. In order to keep this natural effect, traditional headstones and other large memorials are not allowed in this area, instead the plot can be marked by a tree or shrub. A small unobtrusive marker may be placed at the base of the tree\shrub.
Shepherds Lane Cemetery
Situated in Beaconsfield near the Amersham road. This cemetery was opened in 1907 and there is now very little space available for new graves. It has a wide range of traditional memorials some of which are of historical interest.
Although many people prefer full memorials it must be kept in mind that the grave owner is responsible for the safety and maintenance of these memorials.
Woodland burials are not to be recommended if you require a neat and tidy cemetery - this area is maintained for the benefit of the wildlife.
However they will be the preferred option for people who enjoy woodland scenery and habitat.
Grave spaces may be reserved for future use by applying to the Cemetery Superintendent at Parkside Cemetery.
Visit the section.
Exclusive burial rights will be granted for 50 years. These rights may be extended after 10 years have passed.
The cemeteries are open to visitors from dawn till dusk every day of the year.
The cemeteries office is now located at Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens Church Lane,Stoke Poges. SL2 4NZ
