Each property is given a 'rateable value' by the Valuation Office Agency (part of the Inland Revenue) and this is multiplied by a 'poundage' to arrive at the amount payable. The poundage is set annually by the Government. For 2007/008 poundage is 44.4p.

Rate Relief for Community Amateur Sports Clubs

From 1st April 2004 local Sports Clubs which have a liability for Business Rates on their premises, will be able to apply for Mandatory Rate Relief reducing their rates by 80%.
