Health and Safety at Work - Regulation and Inspection

District Councils have a duty to monitor conditions and enforce Health and Safety Regulations within their area.  Officers in the Commercial Team within Environmental Health carry out regular checks on offices, shops, warehouses, catering premises, customer service activities, places used for leisure activities and other non-industrial premises to ensure that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees and visitors.
Industrial premises including factories and large scale industry, Council owned premises, schools and hospitals fall to Health and Safety Executive for enforcement.
