Taxi Ranks within the South Bucks District

Taxi ranks are provided on-street for use by hackney carriages. They are provided where a demand has been identified, such as outside large establishments like hospitals, bus and rail stations etc, or at locations where the public or taxi operators have suggested they would be beneficial.

• Hackney Carriage Ranks should be located within 50m to 100m of the facility being served.

• If this is not possible, then advisory signage will be installed to direct customers to the adjacent Hackney Carriage Rank.

• Ranks should be sited so that passengers board or alight from the taxi onto the footway on the nearside of the vehicle.

• Ramps and steps should only be used for access and egress via the nearside passenger door.

• Where taxi ranks are arranged on the offside of the road, a pickup and drop off point nearby on the opposite side should be identified for wheelchair passengers.

Please Note: Parking in a taxi rank by a vehicle other than a licensed Hackney Carriage is not permitted and is subject to a fixed penalty notice.

There is currently one part time official Taxi Rank in the district of South Bucks. The purpose of a taxi rank is to provide the public with a set location where they can hire a fully licensed taxi.

The location of the official Taxi Rank is:

London End, Beaconsfield (opposite the Royal Saracens Head)
There is also a pick up point in Maxwell Road located within the car park of Revolution Bar. All Licensed Hackney Carriages are permitted to rank inside the designated taxi area. This pick up point is managed by marshalls employed by the premises to ensure customers leave quickly and safely in licensed vehicles.

South Bucks District Council is currently working in partnership with Bucks County Council, local Town/Parish Council's and the Drivers to assess and introduce more Taxi Ranks into the District. The main consideration in the location of taxi ranks is to ensure that they can be safely accommodated without conflicting with other kerbside demands. Ranks can be operational for 24 hours or part time, such as evening only.
