Councillor Dr Wendy Matthews was elected at the annual council meeting on 23 May 2017, having been Vice Chairman since February 2016
The role of Chairman is twofold. Firstly, as First Citizen of the District, Councillor Matthews will represent the Council at various events, functions and official engagements. Secondly, as Chairman, Councillor Matthews will chair the council meetings and conduct the council's deliberations, debates and decision-making.
She has been a District Councillor since 2011 representing the Iver Village and Richings Park Ward.
Wendy is a member of the Healthy Communities Policy Advisory Group, Pinewood Community Liaison Group and Planning Committee as well as Vice Chairman of the Governance and Electoral Arrangements Committee.
Councillor Matthews also sits on various outside bodies including the Bucks Health and Adult Social Care Select Committee and represents South Bucks District Council on the Joint Planning Policy Member Reference Group
Wendy has lived in South Bucks for 37 years and raised her family here. She is Chairman of Iver Parish Council and a committee member of the Richings Park Residents' Association, having previously been its Chairman.
On her appointment as Chairman, Councillor Matthews said: "I am delighted to represent the Council and look forward to meeting many residents and community groups and promoting the District as a wonderful place to live and work. I hope to support a project to address mental health issues for children and young people during my term of office."
