Demolition work can cause problems for your neighbours and every care should be taken to minimise any potential nuisance for them.
If you are undertaking demolition at your property it is recommended that you make an effort to inform neighbours of your plans in advance, providing a contact name and number for complaints.
Dust, noise & smoke should be minimised and work should be scheduled for weekdays and not evenings, weekends or bank holidays.
Particularly noisy operations such as pile-driving may require more stringent controls and pumps generators and lighting units should not be left running overnight.
You should consider the impact of the work and any associated vehicles in terms of damage to property and danger to the public.
If noise problems do occur we can take legal action to control them. If you think your work may cause a significant nuisance you are entitled to seek prior consent from us under the Control of Pollution Act, we are also able to advise regarding the adequacy of your proposed controls. Sections 80 to 83 of the Building Act 1984 also give the Local Authority powers in relation to enforcement action where demolition works pose a threat to public safety.
