South East Plan

When adopted, the South East Plan will be the new Regional Spatial Strategy for the South East region. At that stage it will replace existing Regional Planning Guidance which is currently set out in Regional Planning Guidance for the South East, RPG9.

The South East Plan will form part of the Development Plan, and will set out the spatial planning strategy for the whole of the South East of England. It will also set out the policy framework for the different sub regions within the South East. South Bucks District falls within a sub region of the South East known as the Western Corridor and Blackwater Valley, which broadly corresponds with the area that many people would call the Thames Valley.

The South East Plan is important since not only will it be part of the Development Plan which will be taken into account in decision making, but also the South Bucks Local Development Framework  , and in particular the Core Strategy, will need to be prepared so that it is consistent with the South East Plan.

The South East Plan is being prepared by the South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA), which comprises a wide variety of partners including local authorities in the South East.

The emerging South East Plan was the subject of consultation at the beginning of 2005. Following on from that consultation SEERA has now published Part 1 of the Draft Plan setting out its core regional policies for the South East as a whole. Further consultation took place in Autumn 2005 on the proposed distribution of housing development to individual Districts in the South East. The results of that consultation and other work being undertaken will inform the preparation of the sub regional strategies which SEERA is intending to submit to Government in March 2006.

Further information and the timetable for the South East Plan are available on the South East Plan website.
