Local Development Scheme

Preparation of the Local Development Scheme is a mandatory requirement under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The Local Development Scheme sets out:

  • What Documents form part of the Local Development Framework
  • What existing Plans and policies will be saved in the interim period whilst new Local Development Documents are being prepared
  • A programme for the preparation of new Local Development Documents stating the milestones and stages for consultation
While the scheme has a particular emphasis on the work to be carried out for next three years, it also identifies priorities beyond that. The Local Development Scheme will be reviewed annually.

The first Local Development Scheme was formally submitted to the Secretary of State via the Government Office in March 2006. A new Local Development Scheme submitted to the Secretary of State via the Government Office for the South East in February 2007 was approved by the Government Office in April 2007.
