Trade Waste

This is also known as business waste, commercial waste and industrial waste.

South Bucks District Council does not operate a commercial waste collection service - we collect from households only (as described in the Environmental Protection Act 1990).

A number of private companies provide refuse collection services to businesses in South Bucks.  These can be found in telephone directories and on the Internet.  Information about waste legislation that is applicable to certain businesses is available on the Environment Agency's website.  Businesses have a Duty of Care to ensure that waste is treated and disposed of legally.

Commercial, industrial, construction and demolition waste accounts for around 66% of waste produced in England and Wales (compared to household and municipal waste at 9%).  Dealing with waste costs money, and will directly affect the profit of any business regardless of its size.

Defra have recognised that awareness of the legal responsibilities businesses have in relation to waste management and information about how waste can be reduced and managed more effectively was hard to find.  In response, the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste (BREW) Programme was launched in 2005.  The programme can also advise businesses on water and energy efficiency and environmentally friendly technology.

The programme is funded by landfill tax, which is currently £24 per tonne and will rise by £8 per year from April 2008.

For further information about the programme please visit www.defra.gov.uk/environment/waste/brew.

If your business has waste which could be used by school children in arts and craft projects, why not give it to the Aylesbury Reuse and Recycling Centre instead of paying to get rid of it?  Please call 01296 425820 to see if it is suitable.
