Hygiene

Treat flood water as if it was raw sewage:

• cover any open wounds with waterproof dressings
• do not eat, drink or smoke with dirty hands - wash thoroughly and disinfect if necessary
• keep hands as clean as possible at all times
• to disinfect hands use ordinary household disinfectant or domestic bleach, diluted one part disinfectant/bleach to 10 parts tap water
• tap water remains uncontaminated, unless you are advised otherwise
