Position Statement on Commuted Sum Payments

Following a meeting of the Health and Housing Policy Advisory Group (PAG) on 21st July 2010, the Portfolio Holder for Health and Housing (Cllr Jennifer Woolveridge) has approved the Position Statement on Commuted Sum Payments (below) for Development Management purposes.

The Position Statement:

• Establishes the current Planning Policy framework in relation to affordable housing provision and commuted sum payments.
• Confirms that in some limited circumstances, the Council might consider it appropriate to accept a commuted sum payment.
• Briefly outlines the broad approach to be used to arrive at the amount a developer should pay in lieu of on-site affordable housing provision.
• Summarises some of the main options for spending any commuted sums received - to provide affordable accommodation to meet local housing needs.
