Interim Guidance on Residential Parking Standards

The current residential parking standard is defined under the South Bucks District Local Plan which was adopted in 1999. Subsequent to the adoption of the Local Plan, the Government published new Guidance setting out the principle of parking standards including the Planning Policy Guidance 13: Transport and Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 3: Housing. PPS 3 stated that Local Planning Authorities should, with stakeholders and communities, develop residential parking policies for their areas.

Under the new planning system, the Local Plan will be replaced by the Local Development Framework . In South Bucks, the car parking policies and standards for both residential and non-residential developments will be set out in the Development Management Development Plan Document (DPD) of the South Bucks Local Development Framework. The Local Development Scheme 2010 indicates that this document would not be adopted before 2014. The Council has therefore adopted an interim interpretation guidance on residential parking standards to guide planning decisions for residential development in this interim period before the Development Management  DPD is adopted.
