Waste & Recycling - Service Standards
Introduction
This web page provides information on the aims of this particular service area. It also provides details of the service level you should expect and how to contact us for further information.
The Council provides a property boundary refuse and recycling collection service for paper/card and glass/cans as well as collections of unwanted bulky household itemse.g. fridges, freezers, beds etc. It is responsible for litter picking of adopted footpaths and mechanical sweeping of adopted roads. The Council also runs various recycling initiatives including the provision of mini-recycling sites and discounted compost bins. The Council encourages residents to compost Garden Waste themselves and provides garden waste collection points at the local household waste sites for composting. It is also operating a Green Waste Collection scheme to 5,400 properties as an ongoing trial.
Aims and Targets
We aim to:
Keep the District clean and tidy by clearing litter, fly-tipping, abandoned cars and providing a refuse collection service and recycling facilities
Promote resident participation in recycling and waste minimisation.
Meet recycling and composting targets and continue to promote recycling and waste minimisation
Continue the schools education programme to educate and promote recycling / waste minimisation schemes to residents
To provide advice and opportunities for the public to get involved in waste minimisation, recycling and garden waste initiatives, including access to reduced price compost bins and recycling centres
Aim to minimise number of missed bins per 100,000 collections, and work towards the elimination of missed collections beneath the current target of 50 misses per 100,000.
Our commitment:
Guarantee collection of all household refuse which is securely bagged and left by the property boundary by 7am on the day of collection.
Those residents receiving wheeled bin collections must ensure all the waste is contained in a South Bucks District bin.
Guarantee collection of all recycling boxes at the property boundary clearly visible from the road on the day of collection
- Return to rectify missed refuse, garden and kitchen waste, and recycling collections on the day due if reported by midday, or within 24 hours if reported by the end of the following day. Missed collections reported after this time will be collected when they are next due.
Bulky items will be collected within 10 working days of receipt unless there is inclement weather.
The council will arrange to collect clinical waste from households one week after being informed that collections are required. Requests for inclusion must come from your GP or District Nurse.
Empty public litter and dog fouling bins twice a week
Remove fly-tipping from areas under District Council remit within 2 days of it being reported and pending legal investigations into possible prosecutions.
Ensure pavements in all the main shopping centres are litter picked five times a week Ensure the pavements and road edge on adopted roads are litter picked according to usage and road gutters are mechanically swept where the pavement is kerbed.
The council will inspect any street nameplates reported damages or missing, and order any replacement within 7 days.
Inspect and issue notice on all vehicles abandoned in areas under District Council remit within 24 hours of reporting.
Remove abandoned vehicles within 24 hours of required time.
The council offers a service to residents (for a small fee) arranging for removal of Disclaimed Vehicles - vehicle owned by the resident and registered within the South Bucks catchment area.

Fly Tipping The District Council is responsible for fly tipped waste on highway verges, lay byes or partially blocking foot paths. To report fly-tipping in these areas call 01895 837339. Waste fly-tipped on private land is the responsibility of the land owner; fly-tipping on the public highway should be reported to the County Council on 08452302882.
