Question

Housing

I live in a shared property with other households - should the council inspect it?

If you live in a property in which three or more people live, at least one of whom is unrelated to the others and where you share facilities this is called a 'House in Multiple Occupation' or HMO. Since 6 April 2006 it is compulsory to license shared accommodation of three or more storeys which is occupied by five or more people who live in two or more separate households. If you think you live in an HMO and to find out more you should contact the Housing Standards Officer on 01895 837310
