The Airports Commission reported in December 2013 that it had shortlisted 3 options to provide additional capacity at airports in the South East of England.
The 3 options were:
- Adding a second runway at Gatwick;
- Doubling the length of the northern runway at Heathrow; and
- Creating new surface access from Iver to the airport (the Heathrow Hub Option) and creating a new runway and terminal to the NW of Heathrow (and south of the M4) promoted by Heathrow Airport Ltd.
On 25 October 2016 the government announced its support for a new northwest runway at Heathrow.
The potential expansion of Heathrow would have an impact on local communities, and the government has been clear that a world-class package of measures should be put in place to support them.
Memorandum of Understanding
On the 19th of February 2018, South Bucks District Council and Heathrow Airport Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding to agree issues relating to the impact on South Bucks District from the Heathrow expansion.
