The Southern Bucking
hamshire Safer Homes Scheme provides minor repairs and home security works in Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe District Council areas. This was previously provided by Help the Aged under the Handy Van Scheme but will now be operated independently by Anchor Staying put on behalf of the district councils. The full details of what the service provides and how to apply are listed below.
Anchor Staying Put is a not-for-profit home improvement agency run by Anchor Trust. By providing small repairs and safety measures we can make homes safer.
What work can we help with?
General Maintenance
All types of minor repair can be undertaken on a "no job too small" basis e.g. painting, carpentry, plumbing and essential home maintenance.
Doors and windows can be adjusted, shallow steps repaired, fences, gates, walls and gutters repaired.
Electrical work is generally restricted to wiring plug appliances and fitting light bulbs.
Small decorating jobs can be undertaken, as can some gardening tasks such as cutting back shrubs to your footpath.
Small items of furniture can be moved within the house or to the edge of your property for collection.
Security
We can install door and window locks, smoke detectors, fit handrails and keysafes.
Advice and information
The fitter can provide advice on health and safety to help reduce the number of falls. He can also offer advice on fire safety, security and energy efficiency.
What jobs cannot be undertaken by the scheme?
We are unable to undertake grass cutting or hedge trimming or any work which involves mains electricity or gas.
We cannot undertake jobs that take longer than two days.
How much will it cost?
Advice, information, quotations and referrals are free.
If work is carried out on your behalf you will be asked to pay for materials together with a contribution towards labour of £10 per hour plus VAT.
