Energy Efficiency Advisory Service

A free advice service for everyone in South Bucks
South Bucks District Council has set up an Energy Efficiency Advice Service in partnership with the National Energy Foundation and the South Midlands Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. Residents of the District and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) based in South Bucks can obtain free and impartial advice on how to save energy at home and at work.

Over 1,800 residents have used the service in its first year, saving an average of £29 from their fuel bills. They should also have warmer, more comfortable homes as a result of the recommendations from the energy advice service.

Saving Energy helps the environment
Not only have clients of the service saved money, they have also helped the environment and have typically reduced their emissions of carbon dioxide by 344kg. This is the gas that is the main cause of global climate change, which is widely believed to be responsible for the hotter drier summers and more extreme winter storms that we are suffering.

Put another way, it adds up to a staggering 170 tonnes of carbon saved in the first year. That is equivalent to the amount of carbon that is locked up in the trees of just over two acres of woodland like Burnham Beeches. Whats more, clients keep on making savings year after year.

How does the Energy Advice service work?
We can help answer specific questions about ways of saving energy, or we can offer a free self-completion Home Energy Check. We can also tell you about any national or local grant or cash back schemes that may be available. To obtain more advice and discounts/availability of grants click here.

If you want to speak to us or to ask us a question, then simply ring:
Freefone 0800-512012 during normal office hours. An alternative telephone contact number is 01908 699921 Or you can send us an e-mail: mkea@mkea.org.uk
but please remember to include your postal address if you want us to send you any leaflets or a Home Energy Check.

If you would like to fill in a Home Energy Check on this website, then you can do so by following the link, but at the moment we still have to post the advice back to you.

If you represent a local group, such as a residents association or Women's Institute, then it is possible that we may be able to come and give your group a presentation about the benefits of saving energy and the ways in which it can be done. If you think that you would like this, then please send us an e-mail or give us a call.

We will also be present at some of the major events taking place in South Bucks District – so look out for us there!

Free advice – is there a catch?
No! This service is being financially supported by South Bucks District Council as part of its commitment to improving the environment for people living and working in the district. As part of the South Bucks District Local Plan, the Council is committed to encouraging energy conservation through effective resource management. It is also keen to meet its commitments under the Home Energy Conservation Act to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from homes in the District, and to help the UK Government meet its targets agreed at the Kyoto conference.

The service is being given by expert staff who work for the National Energy Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to encouraging the better use of energy, and for the South Midlands Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. The advice centre is part of a European Commission SAVE II Regional Energy Agency and works closely with the Government’s Energy Saving Trust.

If you would like advice about Renewable Energy, including solar water heating for homes and garden swimming pools and modern high efficiency wood burning stoves, then please contact the National Energy Foundations Renewable Energy Department on 01908-665555 or send them an e-mail info@nef.org.uk or visit their website National Energy Foundation.
