Home Repair Assistance

This is for small items of repair, improvement or adaptation.

Eligible works include:

  • Minor repairs
  • Cavity Wall insulation
  • Complimentary works to disabled persons grant

Who can apply?

Applicants must be in receipt of an income related benefit - relevant benefits include:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit with an annual household income of less than £15,050
  • Child Tax Credit with an annual household income of less than £15,050
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit

The following benefits are not income related:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • War Disablement Benefit

To qualify for adaptations to help a disabled person remain in their home, applicants must be in receipt of a disability benefit.

In all cases, applicants must have lived in the property for at least three years and be aged 18 or over and also:
  
be an owner occupier or a tenant or have an exclusive right of occupation for more than five years, 
 
or
  
be living in a houseboat or a mobile home, And have a duty or power to carry out the work.

How much is the grant?
Up to £3,000 per application.

Is the grant repayable?
Owner-occupiers must live in the property as their only or main residence for at least three years after the works are completed.
The Council can recover the grant in full if the conditions are breached.
