Singapore to host first edition of the Youth Olympic Games in 2010
The first Summer Youth Olympic Games were held in Singapore in 2010 with over 3,500 athletes competing. The UK squad consisted of 39 top competitors from 16 sports; the squad performed admirably finishing 17th in the medal table with a total haul of 9 medals (3 gold/1 silver/5 bronze).
The next Summer Youth Olympic Games have been awarded to the city of Nanjing in China and will take place between the 16th - 24th August 2014. Nanjing is situated in East Central China alongside the Yangtze River and has a estimated population of 8,000,000; the city is renowned for its rich cultural history. The Games will comprise of 26 sports with a total of 3,600 athletes.
