Olympic Games: Southern entrance (Windsor Racecource)
Windsor Racecourse is the spectator entrance for Eton Dorney. Spectators using this entrance will have a shorter walk to the seating area and better access to concessions. There are more than 10 times as many queuing lanes at this entrance, meaning that queues will move more quickly.
Spectators should be encouraged to plan their travel in advance through either booking a rail ticket (they will get a free shuttle service from the station to the venue), or booking a Park & Ride space (with free shuttle service).
Taxis and pre-booked Private Hire vehicles (PHVs) can drop off and collect passengers near the taxi rank inside the Windsor Racecourse main entrance on the A308. Please note that there will be no waiting permitted, this is simply a ‘kiss and drop’ facility. Only Taxis and pre-booked Private Hire Vehicles will be allowed to drop off and pick up passengers from this location.
Spectators staying to the north of the venue are advised to make their way to Maidenhead or Slough rail stations and catch a free shuttle bus from there to the venue.
If any organisations are planning to transport guests to the venue, the recommended options are:
-
Encourage guests to use one of the organised transport options available - www.getaheadofthegames.com/going-to-the-games .
-
Book a space for minibus/coach
-
No spectators can be dropped off along the A308 near the Windsor Racecourse. There will be a clearway in place, which will be strictly enforced.
Paralympic Games: Southern entrance (Windsor Racecourse)
This entrance is closed during the Paralympics, therefore cannot be used.
Cycling and Walking to Dorney Lake
For those local residents who can travel to the venue either by bicycle or foot there will be an entrance adjacent to the North entrance (Buckinghamshire Side).
Olympic Games: Northern entrance (Dorney village)
The northern entrance is dedicated to staff, officials and athletes. There will, however, be capacity for a limited number of local spectators who are walking or cycling to the venue.
No spectators can access the northern end of the venue via motorised vehicles. There will be enforced clearways in place on all roads accessing the venue (including Marsh Lane/Court Lane and B3026 Lake End Road/Village Road/Common Road) preventing vehicles from parking, stopping and dropping off passengers on these roads. There will be Police presence along the routes that will be strictly enforcing the clearway.
Access will only be permitted through the northern entrance for walkers and cyclists who are travelling from the local area. Cyclists are advised to use the National Cycle Routes 4 or 61, or Marsh Lane - not Lake End Road - as this will be the primary route for Athlete and Games Family bus services.
There is a 1.5 kilometre walk to the seating stands once inside the venue, adding a significant distance to the journey.
As this is the dedicated Games Family entrance, there is less provision for spectator security checks at this entry point. Therefore, spectators may have longer queuing times and may also need to be held outside of the venue for short periods.
Any local person that is unable to walk/cycle from home to the northern entrance should travel by one of the organised transport arrangements such as the free rail shuttles from Windsor & Eton Riverside, Slough or Maidenhead stations or via one of the spectator Park & Ride services. These can be booked through -
