Drug Awareness Events For ‘Not in My Neighbourhood week’ 2nd – 6th November 2009

Parents and young people in Beaconsfield and Taplow will be able to find out more about drugs and related issues at two events being held locally to coincide with the Home Office initiative ‘Not in my neighbourhood Week’.

South Bucks Community Safety team and a drugs outreach worker will be on hand to offer advice and support to both parents and young people at the events being held at two local supermarkets. The team will have a ‘drugs box’ available to help raise awareness of what various drugs and associated litter look like as well as helping people find specialist advice or offering one-to-one support if needed.

Similar drug awareness events were run in the summer during National Tackling Drugs week and were very well received with many residents commending the team on this vital work. Almost 400 residents visited the stands to receive information on drugs, including many young people. They were also able to seek advice on support services available locally. Thames Valley Police supported the events and at one stand a member of the public came forward with a vital piece of intelligence relating to a local drug dealer.

The drug awareness events for ‘Not in my Neighbourhood Week’ are as follows;

• 12 – 4.30pm Monday 2nd November 2009: Sainsbury’s Taplow
• 12 – 4.30pm Thursday 5th November 2009: Sainsbury’s Beaconsfield
