Free Places On MEND Programme Available To Help Children Have Fun And Watch Their Weight

Overweight young people aged 7 to 13 in South Bucks have a great new opportunity to take part in the latest free course designed to help them get fitter, healthier and happier. MEND is the UK's largest healthy lifestyle programme for overweight children and South Bucks District Council has places available on a new course starting on 22nd September.

During the previous MEND programmes in South Bucks parents have witnessed many positive changes in their children's attitude to food and exercise. The children have been able to try healthy new food, encouraged to be more active, and have even seen their waistlines shrink by an average of 2 inches each, and their self-esteem and fitness levels have soared! Both the children and parents formed great friendships and were a great source of support to each other throughout the ten weeks.

Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community, says, 'The MEND programme has been a very positive experience for the families who have attended the courses so far. It is a really fun way to help youngsters improve their self-esteem and make lasting friendships whilst learning how to be healthier and more active. I am looking forward to seeing even more children attend this fantastic FREE course and transform their lives.'

The sessions take place at Evreham Sports Centre in Iver, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm. Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer. It is delivered by specially trained professionals and aims to help children and their parents understand and change unhealthy attitudes towards food and fitness.

Families interested in attending the next course should contact the Leisure Section on 01895 837348 or email
