Free Smoke Alarms To Mark The Launch Of The Home Safety Check Scheme In South Bucks
A Home Safety Check Scheme has been launched in South Bucks in partnership with Bucks Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS). To mark the launch more vulnerable residents are able to claim a complimentary 10 year warrantied smoke alarm which will be fitted free of charge.
The Home Safety Check is a referral scheme aimed at residents who may be vulnerable to help them to feel safer within their homes. The aim is to identify the resident's particular needs and by notifying the appropriate service provider advice, support or intervention can be offered to them. There is now a process in place which can help identify members of the community who may benefit from some extra support. Once a resident has been identified to one of the partner agencies their details will be passed to BFRS who will then arrange a visit to establish what further assistance that individual may require.
Topics covered include falls prevention, home security, fire safety, food and alcohol safety, safe use of medicines and all aspects of home safety including coping with extremes of hot or cold weather, safe use of gas and electricity and garden safety.
South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community says "By using this joined-up approach members of the community who are potentially vulnerable will be able to receive much needed support from a number of different agencies. By closer communication, increased sharing of information and joint training across the partnership the wellbeing of these residents can only be improved."
This new multi-agency approach to home safety has involvement from SBDC, Thames Valley Police, Bucks Drug and Alcohol Action Team, Help the Aged/Age Concern, Bucks Vision, Royal National Institute for Deaf people, Neighbourhood Watch, L&Q Housing and Paradigm Housing amongst others.
