Get Ready For winter With the Driving For Work Road Safety Roadshow

Local residents are invited to come along on Wednesday 11th November between 11am and 3pm to the Station Road Car Park in Gerrards Cross to the South Bucks District Council ‘Winter Road Safety Event’.

The event is supported by Transport for Buckinghamshire Road Safety Team and The Bucks Fire Service and is being hosted by South Bucks District Council.

Everyone who turns up at the event will receive a free goody bag containing:

  • leaflets on eyesight, drink driving, mobile phones
  • an ice scraper
  • a tyre depth gauge
  • a fluorescent jacket
  • de-icer
  • a pen, and 
  • a Highways Agency winter driving leaflet
During their visit to the roadshow, drivers will be shown by the Automobile Association (AA) how to:
  • check anti-freeze levels and the importance of this
  • check and replace wiper blades 
  • change a wheel safely
  • check oil and brake fluid levels
Also available at the event there will be:
  • a brake reactor (in car device that gives a response rate for thinking and stopping times and shows stopping distances at various road speeds)
  • ‘beer goggles’ which show how being drunk affects vision
South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community says, “With the cold and icy weather fast approaching we’d like to encourage residents to come along to the roadshow and get some free advice on how to stay safe on the roads this winter.”

The Fire Service exhibition vehicle will also be at the event on November 11th showing road safety DVD’s and literature and Thames Valley Police are coming along with its Speed Indicator Device (SID) to show how these help keep the roads of Buckinghamshire safe this winter.
