MEND Detective’s Secret Mission Success

Children and adults taking part in the South Bucks MEND programme recently went undercover with their magnifying glasses investigating food labels to find ‘MEND-friendly’ food across a range of products.

MEND emphasises changing nutrition habits, setting goals and increasing activity levels, and the MEND Detectives had great fun visiting Sainsbury’s supermarket in Taplow to practice their label reading skills in a real environment and to taste different kinds of healthy foods. Other activities the MEND participants take part in are fun games, a ‘Who Wants to be a Healthonnaire?’ quiz, and a feast made up entirely of ‘MEND-friendly’ food.

South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community,, said, ‘South Bucks District Council is committed to supporting residents to live healthy, active lives, and the MEND programme is one of a range of initiatives that the Council is delighted to be able to offer to our residents.’

With funding from the Big Lottery Fund, South Bucks District Council will be running more MEND programmes during 2010. This FREE programme will give children and their parents the tools to eat well, be active and change their habits. The next programme starts on 12 January 2010, and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm at Burnham Upper School, Burnham, for ten weeks for children aged 7 to 13years old.

The programme is completely FREE, however children must attend with a parent or carer. To discuss the programme in more detail or to register your place, contact Sports Development Officer on 01895 837255 or email mend@southbucks.gov.uk. Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
