Not in My Neighbourhood! Have Your Say....

It's already one of the safest places in Britain - and crime prevention agencies in Buckinghamshire are working hard to keep it that way.

'Not in My Neighbourhood' week - November 2nd to 6th - focuses on residents joining forces with local agencies to say "no" to crime and antisocial behaviour - as well as environmental issues such as litter and graffiti The week is being supported by the Bucks Community Safety Partnership who want to highlight the work they are doing to tackle crime and keep communities safe.

The partnership is distributing posters around the county, asking for local people to propose something they; could do, be involved in, or would like to see happen in their neighbourhoods, during this week. This is to support work around the national, 'We Asked, You Said, We Did' campaign. All you need to do is contact your local district community safety team and make a suggestion. It's all about residents having a say in how they want their local neighbourhoods improved and shaped in the future.

The deadline for residents of South Bucks to submit their suggestions is 30th September 2009. Ideas can be emailed to communitysafety@southbucks.gov.uk or can be discussed by telephone on 01895 837220.

'Not in My Neighbourhood' week will demonstrate how local agencies, the Council and the Police work together to reduce crime and disorder and how residents can play their part in helping to shape some of the work they do.

South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community says, "I hope this week of action will bring our residents and the authorities closer together to provide greater knowledge, greater empowerment, and greater reassurance. We can only do so much to achieve our aims. We need residents taking an interest in their neighbourhood. We want them to commit to helping themselves as well. During the week there will be many opportunities for them to get involved and take a stand against crime and antisocial behaviour and help make sure our communities are safe for us all to live in."

Susie Yapp, Safer Bucks Partnership Manger said, "We are a proactive partnership and hope that this week's activities give the community a sense of the work that goes on every week throughout the year to make Buckinghamshire even safer. We want our communities not only to be safe but for our residents and visitors to 'feel safe' too."

'The best way to make Buckinghamshire safer is for us all to work together to prevent, help solve and reduce crime. This week is an excellent example of how to go about it. Crucially though, we need the public's assistance. The more information and co-operation we get, the more we can help and the safer everyone will be'.

Residents are also being encouraged to find out more about their local Neighbourhood Action Group by contacting their local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO). Neighbourhood Action Groups help build community spirit and also create a vital link between the Police and local communities.
