Local Children Learn How to Keep Safe
Over 300 South Bucks school children recently visited Hazard Alley in Milton Keynes thanks to funding from South Bucks District Council.
Hazard Alley is a purpose built interactive centre where children between 7 and 12 years old can experience hazardous scenarios in safety. The project helps children to identify everyday hazards and teaches them how to deal with them and how to keep themselves and others safe when faced with emergencies.
On the visit the children were made aware of the potential dangers both within the home and in the wider community. Issues of personal safety, road safety, the dangers associated with building sites, farms and waterways were all highlighted in a fun and informative way using familiar scenarios and environments. Emphasis is also put on the consequences of crime and antisocial behaviour including information on victim awareness and how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
South Bucks District Councillor, Shorne Tilbey Portfolio Holder for Community says, “It is increasingly important to get the community safety message across so that youngsters understand as they get older, that they can all play a positive and constructive part in helping to make our communities safer and better for everyone. The Council is committed to ensuring that 10 to 11 year olds in South Bucks have all had the chance to attend a safety training event.”
