New Personal Safety Initiative To Be Launched At Local Night Club

A new campaign aimed at increasing personal safety for young adults is to be launched on 7th April 2010 at a night club in Beaconsfield. The campaign, which has been organised by Thames Valley Police and South Bucks District Council, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of drink spiking and domestic abuse.

Personal safety packs will be handed out to those enjoying a night out at Revolutions Night club in Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield. The packs will include anti-spiking safety bottle tops, drink detectors to identify if a drink has been spiked and information on ensuring that a good night out does not turn into a bad one. It is hoped that by raising awareness of the issues and educating those who may be vulnerable will have a long term impact on them. The packs are primarily targeted at students who may be planning to go away for the first time to university or planning on travelling abroad on a gap year.

A team of officers from the police and council will work in conjunction with Revolutions management team to enable high visibility interaction with those attending ‘Student Night’ at the club on 7th April. It is hoped that the campaign will be repeated again later in the year.

South Bucks District Councillor, Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community says “It is important that we provide useful tips and guidance to people who go out in the evening so they can keep themselves safe. For young people going away to university for the first time is an exciting adventure, however being in new situations can also make them more vulnerable. With this campaign we are hoping to equip young adults with the knowledge to enjoy a safe night out without becoming a victim.”

By working together on this campaign Thames Valley Police and South Bucks District Council hope to have a real positive impact on the lives of our young adults before they move on to lead independent lives.
