Chairman Continues For a Second Term
The Chairman of South Bucks District Council has been re-elected for a second term.
The role of Chairman is twofold and as First Citizen of the District involves promoting the Council as a whole and representing the Council at various events, functions and official engagements. Secondly, his role as Chairman will involve him presiding over Council meetings, ensuring that the proceedings are conducted efficiently, having regard to the rights of Councillors and the interests of the community.
Councillor Walters, who has lived in Beaconsfield for 19 years, has served as a District Councillor since 2001 and a Beaconsfield Town Councillor since 1999. In 2004 he was elected as Mayor of Beaconsfield. During his time as a Councillor for South Bucks, He has been Chairman of the Personnel Committee, and a member of the Planning Committee. He is currently a member of the Personnel Committee and sits on both the Environment and Community Policy Advisory Groups. Councillor Walters also sits on the Olympic Advisory body and is also a member of the Chiltern Conservation Board.
Councillor Walters is married with a family, two grown up sons and two teenage daughters.
On his re-election as Chairman, Councillor Walters said: “I am greatly honoured to have been chosen for a second term and delighted to be back in the post. Being Chairman is a fantastic opportunity that not many Councillors get even once and I am very grateful and flattered to be elected for another year.”
At the same meeting Councillor Santokh Chhokar was appointed Vice Chairman of the Council. Cllr Chhokar is a District Councillor for Gerrards Cross East and Denham South West and is a member of the Standards Committee and the Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
