The Easter holidays are fast approaching and are often a time for indulging in chocolate, DIY projects and spring cleaning. Unfortunately all of these lead to extra rubbish being produced.
South Bucks District Council is encouraging residents to think about reusing and recycling their unwanted items over the holidays instead of throwing them out.
Before getting rid of unwanted furniture, electrical items or CD’s/DVD’s try;
- Selling them in a local newspaper or online marketplace.
- Asking friends and family if they have a use for them.
- Donating them to a charity shop or local community project.
- Using national networks such as Freecycle (www.uk.freecycle.org) or the Furniture Re-use Network
( www.frn.org.uk )
Re-using an item of furniture reduces waste and saves the energy and resources associated with manufacturing a new one, having an enormous and positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions. For unusable items, you can recycle household electrical items, wooden furniture, books, DIY waste and more at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre. Visit the
bulky waste collections pages for more information.
Don’t forget cardboard and paper packaging from your Easter eggs can go into your black recycling box and foil can be taken to many of the recycling bring sites throughout the district. You can also reduce waste at this time of year by buying eggs that have reduced or have predominantly paper/card packaging.
