South Bucks District Council Celebrates One Year to Go To The London 2012 Games
South Bucks residents have a chance to take part in celebrating one year to go to the London 2012 Games. Local clubs are opening their doors and offering free taster sessions to all the family as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend supported by BP - a series of sporting and cultural events taking place across the UK which will see hundreds of thousands of people participating in events to celebrate the ‘One Year to Go’ countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Saturday 23 July at 8.45am sees South Bucks Running Club hosting a 5km run through Black Park in Wexham. Runners of all ages and abilities are welcome but registration is essential to obtain an official race time. To register please visit:

On Sunday 24 July 12-3pm The Lanes Golf Course and Driving Range, Stoke Road, Stoke Poges is offering lessons with a PGA Professional and 100 balls to use on the range after your lesson. Limited spaces are available booking is required, to book your place call 01895 837306.

Sunday 24 July ‘Bike! Burnham’ is offering a 6 or 12 mile ‘Tour de Dorney’ setting off from Burnham Upper School, Opendale Road at 2.20pm. The cyclists will take in views of The Jubilee River and Dorney Lake. Don’t forget to bring along your bike and helmet. Under 16’s must be accompanied by a cycling adult; under 9’s can be trailed by an adult with a trail-gator or trailer bike. Numbers are limited so book early to avoid disappointment:

Open Weekend 2011 follows the success of the past three previous years, in which over 2.4 million people across the UK unleashed their creativity across a series of sporting, art and cultural activities in celebration of the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
South Bucks District Council, South Bucks Running Club, The Lanes Golf Course and Driving Range and ‘Bike! Burnham’ joins hundreds of other Open Weekend challenges – ranging from an outdoor screening of The Tate Movie in Trafalgar Square to a celebration of Jamaican culture in the centre of Birmingham.
