Fulmer Infant School Are The Pride Of Bucks
A South Bucks school has been awarded the ‘Youth Pride’ Award at last week’s (10th November) prestigious Pride of Bucks Awards evening.
To earn the award, twelve Fulmer Infant School pupils cleared their school of litter and weeds to encourage other pupils, staff and visitors to appreciate and take pride in their surroundings and discourage litter.
South Bucks District Councillor Bill Lidgate, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Chairman of the Buckinghamshire Joint Waste Committee said "It costs South Bucks District Council over £900,000 a year to keep our streets clean therefore it is inspiring to see the pride that residents take in where they live. Fulmer Infant School play a hugely important role in encouraging the next generation to value the environment and take responsibility for keeping it litter free, lessons that we could all use from time to time."
"The awards were a long deserved thank you for those individuals and groups that are already helping to reduce litter where they live."
The evening saw the launch of the new ‘Love Where You Live Bucks’ campaign that has two key aims, firstly, to encourage positive attitudes and behaviour towards avoiding litter, and secondly to empower individuals and local groups to take action on litter. Over the next 6 months South Bucks District Council will be raising awareness and educating the public about litter issues.
There were five awards up for grabs for individuals, schools and community groups, two photographic and three action led for those that took action on litter during Love Where You Live Week 19th – 25th September. The award winners were;
