Walkers Abound at First Gerrards Cross Simply Walk
The organisers of the new Gerrards Cross Simply Walk were delighted with the turn out of over forty walkers at the first walk which took place last Tuesday.
Starting at Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre the walkers moved on to East Common before continuing on to Camp Road and returning via The Bull Hotel through West Common.
The walk took an hour although a smaller loop around the Common was available for walkers who found the longer option too daunting.
Attending the event South Bucks District Councillor Anita Cranmer, Portfolio Holder for Community, said, “The number of walkers here today is truly fantastic, it really goes to show what can be achieved when a community gets behind an enjoyable and healthy activity such as this”.
The walk which will take place every Tuesday from the Memorial Centre starts at 10.30am is supported jointly by South Bucks District Council, via Councillor Jennifer Woolveridge’s contribution from the Councillors Community Grant Fund and Buckinghamshire County Council.
The ‘Simply Walk’ Programme has been operating county wide for many years, and has proved invaluable for community spirit, bringing people together, tackling isolation and providing a healthy and fun way for people to make new friends in their own neighbourhood.
The walks are led by trained volunteer walk leaders, walkers are encouraged to walk at own pace and wear suitable footwear.
