Six Taken To Court In Parking Crackdown

Six successful prosecutions have been mounted in the past month, as South Bucks District Council cracks down on those failing to pay their parking fines.

The prosecutions were brought against six individuals who failed to pay their excess charge notices (ECN). Fines totalling £480 were handed out by magistrates, alongside compensation and costs of £1180.

South Bucks District Councillor Bill Lidgate, Portfolio for Environment says, “We are pleased with the outcome and want to send a clear message to drivers using our car parks that if you don’t pay up when you have been issued with an excess charge notice then we will prosecute’.

He continued, “If you have received an ECN, you shouldn’t ignore it. You should either pay the penalty charge, or if you think the ECN shouldn’t have been issued (for example; you have received a ECN for parking in a disabled parking place without a valid Blue Badge, but the badge had slipped off the dashboard) you should write to the Council and explain what happened so that we can consider the matter further.”
