Walkers Enjoy Olympic Walk and Talk at Dorney Lake
Last week saw over thirty walkers enjoy a, ‘Simply Walk and Talk’ event at the Eton College Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake. A 5km walk around the lake was followed by an Olympic themed talk given by the centre’s Head Rowing Coach, Terry Hunter.
Terry explained how the lake was originally created and how it will be transformed to become a venue for the rowing and flat water canoeing events in the London Olympics next year.
South Bucks District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community, Councillor Anita Cranmer, says, ‘Our hectic lives can be greatly improved by getting some fresh air during an invigorating walk. The Simply Walks activities provide an excellent way to meet new people and get fit’. The mental benefits from walking are also matched by physical gains such as reduced blood pressure, improved flexibility and help with weight control.
‘Simply Walks’ is a free county wide initiative that co-ordinates over 50 walks in Buckinghamshire. South Bucks District Council supports nine walks within its district including walks in Dorney, Burnham, Black Park, Beaconsfield and Langley Park. A new walk in Gerrards Cross will be starting on the 1st March 2011.
