New Golf Clubhouse And A New Name
Exciting times lie ahead for golfers following the decision by South Bucks District Council to lend The Farnham Park Trust £1.98m to build a new golf clubhouse and green-keepers’ compound.
The new state of the art clubhouse has been designed by HLN Architects who also designed the Twenty-Ten clubhouse at the Celtic Manor which played host to the Ryder Cup in 2010. Although on a much smaller scale many of the features of that building will be incorporated into this clubhouse. The new architecturally stunning building, will replace the existing clubhouse which has structural problems and no longer provides the facilities necessary to support the golf courses.
South Bucks District Council Councillor Anita Cranmer’s, Portfolio Holder for Community says: “The new clubhouse will provide the community of South Bucks with a superb facility that supports the objectives of the Farnham Park charitable trust which are for the improved health and wellbeing of its residents. The well renowned Colt /Hawtree designed 18 hole course is already first class and has been held back by the aging facilities in the clubhouse. But now the green light has been given to build a new clubhouse, the facility and the course is set to offer some of the best public facilities in the area.”
The new clubhouse will offer new dining areas and function rooms, a large golf shop and on-site club repair workshop, large changing rooms and showers. The intention is that the new building will be built on the site of the current green-keepers’ compound which will be relocated to the neighbouring Farnham Park playing fields. The new location for the clubhouse will afford panoramic views across the course from the main function rooms and rear terrace. The existing clubhouse and the course will remain open throughout the construction so golfers will be able to continue to have on and off the course facilities as normal but with the added attraction of being able to watch this exciting project come to life in front of them.
As well as giving the go ahead to fund a new clubhouse, approval has also been given for a new name, ‘The South Buckinghamshire’. The 18 hole course at Farnham Park, and the 9 hole course and 15 bay floodlit driving range at The lanes, have joined forces to provide a complete golfing offer that will meet the needs of golfers in the area under one name. The South Buckinghamshire will have something for everyone, from those completely new to golf, to the more experienced player.
Golf lessons will continue to be offered from as little as £2.50 a session at The South Buckinghamshire Academy facility formerly known as the Lanes which is ideal for beginners of all ages, whilst the mature 18 hole course formerly Farnham Park offers a challenging course for those looking for a more testing game.
In addition the floodlit, state of the art, 15 bay driving range allows everyone to perfect that swing, even after the sun’s gone down.
The South Buckinghamshire has exciting times ahead with the new clubhouse and the merger of the two facilities but this just the start. The next 12 months will see some dramatic changes, so why not give it a go and be part of this exciting transformation?
