South Bucks Success At Youth Games

Young athletes from the South Bucks District enjoyed a successful day at the third annual Bucks Youth Games on Saturday 7th June.

Over a thousand young people aged between 8 and 14 years old attended the mini Olympic event held in Milton Keynes, competing in 14 different sports across four venues. A fun-filled day was had by all involved, with entertainment including music, face-painting and inflatables as well of lots of sporting action!

South Bucks youngsters did particularly well in Boccia taking silver and in Curling and Tennis with bronze in both events. The South Bucks team came second overall in the fair play award, narrowly missing out to the winners Milton Keynes, and tribute goes to all of those representing the district in the event who contributed to this achievement.

South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community enthused, 'Each year this event provides a great opportunity for young athletes to experience competing in a major sporting event at the grass roots level. For many of the talented athletes involved this may be the foundation for many future sporting achievements!'

The District Council's Sports Development Team would like to congratulate all the teams, the team managers, clubs and schools that have worked hard to make the day a success for South Bucks.

Formally part of the Thames Valley Youth Games, the build up to the annually run Bucks Youth Games usually starts in September and involves school festivals and trials in association with local sport clubs.
