Gerrards Cross will become a 'Fun-tastic World' of fun on Sunday 29th June, as the community gears up to celebrate Britain's multicultural society at Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre from 1pm to 4pm.
Sponsored by Paolo Marchetti Interiors, this FREE event is a real community project with South Bucks District Council, Gerrards Cross Parish Council, Asian Star 101.6 fm and other local businesses and groups working together to create a great day out filled with fun activities and performances.
There will be performances by Egyptian belly dancers, Brazilian footballers and karate players, as well as traditional English Maypole dancing, and battle re-enactments from medieval soldiers. Activities available for the whole family to take part in such as finger painting with Belgian chocolate, crafts from around the world, and Russian doll painting, plus others from different parts of the globe. We also have food and drink stalls from different cultures.
A highlight of the day will be the National Dress Contest, with children and adults of all ages able to dress up in national costume - your own or someone else's - and be in with the chance of winning a great prize. Workshops with professional artists will be held on the day to create a mask or headdress to add that finishing touch to an outfit.
'Our Fun-tastic World' promises to be a great day out for all the family, with plenty to see and do, and a great way to learn more about the world around us. South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community, said: 'Our Fun-Tastic World is a great opportunity to bring the community together. Children and adults will be able to find out more about the traditions and heritage of other cultures in the local community through this fun event.'
Parking at the Memorial Centre is limited and there will be stewards on site directing cars to parking facilities. South Bucks District Council and Gerrards Cross Parish Council are encouraging people, where possible, to consider using green transport, such as cycling or walking to the Memorial Centre.
