Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre was transformed into a mini-world on Sunday, 29th June as 'Our Fun-Tastic World' took place. Organised by South Bucks District Council in partnership with Gerrards Cross Parish Council and Asian Star Radio, the event brought the South Bucks community together to celebrate Britain's multicultural society.
Over 2,000 people attended the event throughout the afternoon, and were treated to a wide range of cultural traditions. There were groups and performances from all over the world and highlights from the main stage included Bollywood dancing by the Asian Women's Club of Gerrards Cross, African drumming, Egyptian dancing and a medieval battle by the Lion Rampant medieval society. Away from the stage, stallholders kept the visitors occupied with food, drink and activities from Russia, India, South America as well as European and traditional English fare.
The National Dress Contest was a huge success with almost 40 children dressing up in costumes from around the world. Crowd favourites included an American cowboy and cowgirl and a double act of St George and the Dragon.
South Bucks District Council Chairman, Councillor Mrs Maureen Royston, said, 'Our Fun-Tastic World provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to get together and learn more about the different cultures within South Bucks. There was a great community atmosphere and we are thrilled that so many people came along, learnt about other cultures and enjoyed themselves on the day.'
South Bucks District Council would like to thank all the sponsors of the event, particularly main sponsor Paolo Marchetti Interiors, the stallholders and performers and all those who visited on the day.
