Gambling licence

The regulation of gambling in the UK is the responsibility of the Gambling Commission. There are three objectives under the Gambling Act 2005 that all those concerned with the licensing process must promote:

  • Preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
  • Ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
  • Protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling

We issue permits for small society lotteries, betting shops, and gaming machines in pubs and clubs.

Statement of Principles

Under The Gambling Act 2005 the Council is required to publish and review a Statement of Principles in relation to its duties under the Act and to guide its work. The Statement of Principles must be reviewed every three years.

The current Statement of Principles is valid until 13 January 2022.
