Playing Pitch Strategy 2018-2036
Chiltern and South Bucks Playing Pitch Strategy 2018 - 2036
The Chiltern and South Bucks Playing Pitch Strategy provides an assessment of sports pitches and associated facilities, whilst identifying opportunities to retain, reduce or remove this provision and prospects for new provision and partnerships. The strategy's scope includes assessing the quality and quantity of Football 3 G Rubber Crumb Pitches, Football (Grassed Pitches), Cricket pitches, Hockey pitches , Rugby Union pitches and Golf provision. The strategy was informed by on-site pitch inspections and also by working with the associated sports governing bodies (Football Association, Rugby Union, England Cricket Board and England Hockey), Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes County Sports Partnership and Sport England.
The strategy's three key objectives are to:
Protect: The strategy seeks to make sure that the right amount of playing pitches and ancillary facilities of the right quality are in the right place. It promotes the protection of existing provision and recognises the benefits of multi-pitch sites
Enhance: Key partners such as the Council, Voluntary sector sports clubs and NGBs will work together to maximise the full potential of playing pitch assets and the long term sustainability of these assets. The strategy will do this by setting out where improvements to the quality of playing pitches and facilities are needed.
Provide: In times of public sector austerity, investment needs to be directed at sites which will provide the best impact and highest increase in participation. It is the policy of Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils to support projects and sports clubs that are able to demonstrate sustainable long term development, increase participation and have achieved the right accreditations eg Clubmark and / or Charter Standard providing player and sports development pathways.
The completed Sports Playing Pitch Strategy along with its associated Annexes also informs the newly emerging Chiltern and South Bucks Local Plan and offers a valuable resource to help town and parish councils, schools, local sports clubs and other community associations to lever in external funding to improve sports playing pitches and their facilities.
