Changes to the 'Permitted Development' rules - 2013 - 2015

In May 2013 the Government introduced measures to increase the scope of works that can be undertaken as 'permitted development' including larger single storey rear extensions and certain changes of use. Such works will be subject to a prior notification procedure. These rules were revised in 2014 and again in 2015.

The new rules are summarised as follows:

Home Extensions

Larger 'permitted development' limits for home and business extensions have been introduced. This is for an initial three year period, although the increased limits do not apply to Listed Buildings, dwellings in a Conservation Area or in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  View Larger Home Extensions and the Extensions - Planning Permission for guidance on the procedure.

There are Prior Approval applications now available for multiple Changes of Use. Please see Icon for pdf list of Prior Notification applications [63.19KB].
